Telehealth Therapy Across Illinois
Video sessions with the same licensed clinicians who see clients in our offices — available anywhere in Illinois.
Telehealth removed the single most common reason people stopped coming to therapy: the drive. For anyone fitting sessions around work, school pick-up or a caregiving schedule, the difference between a fifty-minute appointment and a two-hour round trip decides whether treatment continues.
The research is reassuring: for most common concerns, video therapy performs comparably to in-person work. It is not right for everything, and we will tell you when in-person would serve you better rather than taking the booking regardless.
Because our clinicians are licensed in Illinois, we can see you anywhere in the state — not only on the North Shore and in Lake County.
When telehealth works well
- A work or caregiving schedule that cannot absorb travel time
- Living outside the North Shore or Lake County but wanting this team
- Mobility limits, chronic illness, or anything that makes travel costly
- Anxiety that makes leaving the house the hardest part of the appointment
- Students away at college during term, continuing with the same clinician
- Winter on the North Shore, frankly
How it works
Sessions run on a secure video platform — not an ordinary consumer video call — and look much like an office appointment. You need a private space, a reliable connection, and a device with a camera.
Scheduling, intake paperwork and benefit verification work the same way as for in-person care, through the patient portal and our Intake Team.
Some work is better in person: most psychological testing instruments require in-person administration to produce valid results, as does play-based therapy with younger children. We will be clear about which parts of your care need an office visit.

Insurance, including Medicare
Grand Oaks Behavioral Health is in-network with most major plans — Blue Cross Blue Shield of Illinois, Aetna, Medicare, Medicare Advantage, Evernorth (Cigna), UnitedHealthcare, BCBS Community Medicaid, Oscar — and with Medicare and Medicare Advantage plans, which a good number of behavioral health practices in the area do not accept. We also take BCBS Community Medicaid. Our Intake Team verifies your specific benefits and tells you your cost before your first appointment.

Common questions
For most common concerns — anxiety, depression, stress, many relationship difficulties — research finds video therapy performs comparably to in-person treatment. Some work is genuinely better in person, particularly psychological testing and play-based therapy with young children, and we will say so rather than take the booking.
Yes, anywhere in Illinois. Our clinicians are licensed in Illinois, which is what determines where they can practise, so telehealth is available statewide rather than only on the North Shore and in Lake County.
Most major plans cover telehealth for mental health, including Medicare, though specifics vary by plan. Our Intake Team verifies your telehealth benefits before your first appointment so you know your cost rather than discovering it on a statement.
A private space where you will not be overheard, a reliable internet connection, and a device with a camera. A phone works; a laptop or tablet is usually more comfortable for a full session. We will send the link and instructions before your first appointment.
